OOT COVID-19

We’ve received communication from many BCPS bus drivers and bus attendants regarding Baltimore County Public Schools’ decision to open virtually for the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year. Driver and attendant questions have largely focused on pay and benefit status during this virtual period. The Baltimore County Public Schools’ decision to open virtually for the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year has obviously affected operations for the Office of Transportation.

Per BCPS’ Master Agreement with AFSCME employees, there will be no furloughs or layoffs of bargaining unit employees during the 2020-2021 school year. We have also confirmed that BCPS-employed bus drivers and bus attendants will be compensated and will receive benefits through the first semester (ending January 29, 2021) while instruction is virtual. During this period, BCPS school bus drivers and bus attendants will be required to serve school system initiatives in accordance with the AFSCME Master Agreement and any current Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), including training, professional learning, supporting the Office of Food and Nutrition Services, supporting instructional initiatives, and/or through community outreach. We hope you are as excited as we are to serve BCPS and to again demonstrate our value to the community.
